AURELIO
TMWO WELDING
Aurelio is an experienced metalworker with over thirty years of experience. His career began at the Philips Company School, where he completed a training in metal technology. As a bander, he earned his diploma with honour and learned everything about machining. He has now been working for a few years in the Tig Welding Micro Orbital department, where he applies his good hand-eye coordination and perfectionism. His craftsmanship earned him a nomination for the Noordhof Prize this year.

"Stimulating, innovative and fascinating. We work on the latest products that are central to technological developments. Because of the challenge of the work, the day always goes by quickly."

Working at VDL
What is important within your role?
"TWMO-joining micro orbital TIG welding is very advanced work. You need good hand-eye coordination and to be perfectionist. It is very precise work because the products we make are generally small components used, among other things, in the semiconductor industry. The lowest welding current we use is about 5.5 amperes and the highest is 100 amperes, approximately two tenths of a millimetre above the product. It often involves small series; the largest series consists of about 40 pieces. This means there is a lot of variety in your work."
What do you enjoy about your job?
"Since 2006, I have been employed at VDL ETG in the TWMO department. I enjoy working here very much and am dedicated to my role. Initially, I was the only one in the department, but now we are a motivated team of four people. We get along very well. My colleagues are one of the main motivators for my job satisfaction. Additionally, we learn a lot from each other; together, you always know more than alone."
What is the highlight of your career?
"I am very proud to have been nominated for the Noordhof Prize. It is a wonderful recognition of my work. The award ceremony was a special event, where I could also involve my family. They were all present to celebrate this with me. For the past two years, I have also been a working foreman of the TWMO and ARLA departments (RVS welding). This is an honorable position, where I bear a lot of responsibility. I am ready to support my 10 colleagues and ensure that production runs smoothly. Naturally, I also participate in production myself. This keeps the work varied. I do it with great pleasure and enjoy supporting my colleagues so they can work optimally."
What advice would you give to someone planning to apply to VDL ETG?
"At VDL ETG you can learn a lot, no matter what your role is. They offer many opportunities to grow and improve yourself. But you need to be proactive and show your interest. If you're looking for a place where you can work hard, learn new things and see results, then VDL ETG is a good choice."
